Thursday night update-10-11-2012; from Dad

The medical team will continue to tweak Shane’s medication through the next couple of days to keep him calm but at the same time set him up to wake up and work towards understanding his situation. Tomorrow at around 10am they will treat his back by performing an internal flush of his wound to ensure that there are no issues with infection. There was some discussion today with removing the air tube and inserting a tube in his trachea: this is preferred over the air tube through his mouth.

The challenge with Shane is that he knows there is something seriously wrong but does not know what. He has a hard time getting comfortable and moves around a lot then starts to sort of panic which causes him to breathe in a labored manner. Prior to him being sedated today he stated he is “starting to freak out” and was calling out for help.

His older brother came up from Virginia today and spent time speaking with him. We are confident he knows he is here and recognizes his voice. Also, Father Simon and his assistant from the local Parish in Cheshire came and spent some amazing time with us and our family. We spent some quality time together in prayer over Shane holding hands and lifting him up.

For the night he is resting and will begin anew in the morning. He will have a full day tomorrow and everybody is working so hard to continue moving forward. Thank you for your continued love and support!
